Rep.-elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) on Friday blasted a conservative journalist who called her a “bitch” in a Twitter post.
Ocasio-Cortez was responding to Michael Moates, who quote-tweeted Ocasio-Cortez earlier Friday, saying that “there is a new standard in Congress. Bitches will subpoena you if you troll them.”
The 29-year-old Democrat fired back at Moates on Twitter.
Wow! A Republican journalist calling me the B-word as he deliberately misinterprets my statement.
Awesome job. How many female leaders have you covered in your career? I’m sure your coverage was very fair and not subconsciously biased at all. https://t.co/FZOsVY92EP

The Hill reports,
The back-and-forth between Ocasio-Cortez and Moates stems from Ocasio-Cortez hitting back at Donald Trump Jr. for making fun of her. Trump Jr. posted a meme on Instagram picturing her that implied socialists eat dogs.
The self-described democratic socialist ripped Trump Jr. in a Twitter post, mocking his “very, very large brain” and reminding him that she will be part of a Democratic majority in the House next year that will have subpoena power over President Trump, which prompted Moates’s tweet about the “new standard in Congress.”
Moates followed up with more tweets, saying the “house should consider expelling her” for “an abuse of power.”
@DonaldJTrumpJr is a good man and the fact that @Ocasio2018wants to abuse her power once she becomes a congresswoman is sad. It’s an abuse of power and the house should consider expelling her if she does.
Ocasio-Cortez has not shied away from Twitter battles, frequently getting into it with Fox News over its coverage of her, as well as prominent Republicans, such as former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, who critique her and her progressive policies.
According to Moates’s Twitter bio, he is chairman of conservative news outlet The DC Chronicle and a doctoral student at Fielding University.
