Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wy.), the House Republican Conference Chairwoman, scolded the mainstream media Sunday for biased reporting on the political feud between President Donald Trump and the group of progressive congresswomen the media has colloquially dubbed “the squad.”
“I think the news media really wants to make this about race— you just did it,” Cheney told Margaret Brennan on “Face the Nation.”
The Blaze Reports:
“This isn’t about race. It’s not about gender. It’s not about religion,” she added. “These [Democrats] believe fundamentally in policies that are dangerous to this nation. And as Republicans, we are going to fight against those, even if the mainstream media accuses us of racism when we do that.”
But Brennan, who continually interrupted Cheney, brought the conversation back to Trump and race, asking about the president’s Sunday morning tweet in which he questioned whether the four congresswomen are “capable” of loving America.
In response, Cheney called out the media for not focusing on “substantive differences,” explaining Trump’s feud is about policy differences.
“Our concern and our opposition to what these women are saying — and many other members of the Democratic Party in the House of Representatives — has to do with the fact that they are advocating policies that will destroy this nation and we will fight against it,” Cheney explained.
“And I think the news media — you included — ought to cover the substance and I think it is outrageous for you to say the president doesn’t talk about substance,” she said.
In all, Brennan interrupted Cheney 12 times.
However, she interrupted the two Democrats she interviewed Sunday — Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) and Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.) — just a combined one time.
How many times CBS News’ Margaret Brennan interrupted the following politicians on “Face the Nation” this morning:
Democrat Rep. Adam Schiff (CA): 0
Democrat Sen. Cory Booker (NJ): 1
Republican Rep. Liz Cheney (WY): 12
