Democrats simply refuse to move on from the Mueller report and Republicans are not hiding their frustration with the obsession.
After using Watergate key figure John Dean as a political prop on Monday to kick off a series of new hearings on the Mueller report, House Dems brought in more commentators on Wednesday to give their interpretations of an investigation that found nothing to charge President Donald Trump with.
BizPac Review Reports:
Wednesday’s hearing was meant to tackle “Volume One” of the Mueller report, which is the section that focuses the most on the collusion between Russia and Trump that the president was accused of back in 2016.
Former FBI officials Stephanie Douglas and Robert Anderson were both “witnesses” before the hearing. Douglas and Anderson are both former executive assistant directors of the National Security Branch of the FBI.
“Volume one of the report outlines a sweeping and systemic effort by Russia to interfere in the 2016 election for the benefit of Donald Trump,” Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) announced during his opening statement at the hearing. “It establishes that the Trump campaign welcomed the Russian interference because it expected to benefit electorally from the information stolen and released through the Russian effort.”
While the day was nowhere near as fiery as Monday, Republicans still bit back at the continued obsession with the Mueller report. Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA) bit back the hardest each and every time he took the microphone.
Nunes summed up the hearing by calling it just another part of a “grotesque spectacle” that Democrats are unable to stop at this point.
“The entire scheme has now imploded and the collusion accusation has been exposed as a hoax,”
he said. “One would think the Democrats would simply apologize and get back to lawmaking and oversight but it’s clear they couldn’t stop this grotesque spectacle even if they wanted to.
The congressman continued, “After years of false accusations and McCarthyite smears, the collusion hoax now defines the Democratic Party. The hoax is what they have in place of a governing philosophy or a constructive vision for our country.”
Nunes did not let Hillary Clinton’s campaign off the hook during the hearing and in his closing remarks he made sure to hammer home the alleged corruption in Clinton’s 2016 campaign. Check out the remarks below:
Nunes also poked holes in theories Democrats have been pushing about the Trump presidential campaign’s ties to Russia. One example was the claim that former Trump attorney Michael Cohen visited Prague to thank the Russians for intervening in the American election. That story has been pushed, but Cohen’s visit has never been corroborated even after serious research by media outlets like The Washington Post.
Nunes also called out the very foundation of the Mueller investigation by saying the special counsel investigated ridiculous falsehoods put forth by the media and therefore gave credibility to conspiracy theories.
“Thus Mueller produced a perfect feedback loop: intelligence leakers spin a false story to the media, the media publishes the story, Mueller cites the story, and the media and the Democrats then fake outrage at Mueller’s findings,” Nunes said.
