Comedian Samantha Bee on Thursday apologized for calling Ivanka Trump the c-word on this week’s episode of her TBS TV show, after the insult drew backlash from the White House and pundits.
“I would like to sincerely apologize to Ivanka Trump and to my viewers for using an expletive on my show to describe her last night,” Bee said in a statement. “It was inappropriate and inexcusable. I crossed a line, and I deeply regret it.”
During a segment on the Trump administration separating border-crossing kids from their parents on Wednesday’s “Full Frontal with Samantha Bee,” the host took aim at the first daughter for tweeting a photo of herself with her young son.
“You know, Ivanka, that’s a beautiful photo of you and your child, but let me just say, one mother to another: Do something about your dad’s immigration practices, you feckless c–t!’” Bee said in the segment, which TBS has since pulled from YouTube.
Actress Sally Field, 70, tweeted her support of Bee in another display of class and dignity:
I like Samantha Bee a lot, but she is flat wrong to call Ivanka a cunt.
Cunts are powerful, beautiful, nurturing and honest.

In December 2016, after Donald Trump won the presidency, Field stated,
“If you look at his past, if you look at his history, there is no evidence that he can do one single thing that he says he’s going to do. He has shown to be everything that he accuses and has accused Hillary Clinton of being. It is now evident he is all of those things, every single thing that he accused her of.”
And then came the backlash,
Didn’t your mama teach you any manners

I can’t believe this! What has this world come to? Vile language does not look good on you.

Wow, I didn’t think somebody would be dumb enough to make this worse.
And I certainly didn’t expect it to be you, Gidget.

@sally_field , I always loved watching you, not anymore. I am so ashamed of the words you have typed regarding a fellow female human. You should be ashamed of yourself. Don’t we have enough men and people tearing woman down…?

Such a shame what some women will do and say to each other in the name of politics.

Stupid. Never knew you were into such hatred and degradation. Remind me to never again watch one of your movies.

I cannot even….seriously? How is it appropriate to ever say this about anyone, especially woman to woman? All we’re told is how we need to support our sisters in the feminist movement but that apparently only counts when it’s the “right” women.
